This Privacy Policy describes how Air Quality App ("we", "our", or "the app") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Location Data
Our app collects and uses your device's location data to provide air quality information for your area. This includes:
- Precise Location (GPS coordinates): Used to fetch air quality data specific to your location
- City, Region, and Country: Obtained through reverse geocoding for display purposes
Important: Location data is processed locally on your device and is only sent to third-party air quality data providers (Open-Meteo and OpenAQ) to retrieve air quality information. We do not store your location data on our servers.
1.2 Automatically Collected Information
We automatically collect certain information when you use the app:
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version
- App Usage Data: Features used, app crashes, and performance data
- Language Preference: Your selected language setting
- Theme Preference: Your selected theme (light/dark mode)
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
We want to be clear about what we don't collect:
- We do not collect personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
- We do not collect payment information
- We do not collect photos or media files
- We do not collect contacts or calendar data
- We do not track your location history
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
2.1 Core Functionality
- Display current air quality index (AQI) for your location
- Show detailed pollutant information (PM2.5, PM10, NO2, O3, CO, SO2)
- Provide air quality forecasts
- Display air quality maps
- Provide health recommendations based on air quality levels
2.2 App Improvement
- Analyze app performance and fix bugs
- Understand which features are most used
- Improve user experience
2.3 Personalization
- Remember your language preference
- Remember your theme preference
- Cache your last known location for faster app loading
3. Data Sharing and Third-Party Services
3.1 Air Quality Data Providers
We share your location coordinates with the following third-party services to retrieve air quality data:
- Open-Meteo Air Quality API
- OpenAQ API
- Purpose: Retrieve air quality data from monitoring stations
- Data Shared: GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude)

3.2 Expo Platform
Our app is built using Expo, which may collect anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to improve the platform. For more information, see Expo's Privacy Policy.
3.3 Advertising
This app uses Appodeal advertising SDK to display ads (interstitial, rewarded video, and banner ads). Appodeal and its mediation partners may collect and process the following data:
- Advertising ID (Google Advertising ID) — used to serve personalized ads
- Device information — device model, OS version, screen size
- IP address — used for approximate location-based ad targeting
- Ad interaction data — impressions, clicks, and video completions
Appodeal mediation partners include: AppLovin, Meta Audience Network, Unity Ads, Vungle, InMobi, Mintegral, BidMachine, and Bidon. Each partner has its own privacy policy governing data collection.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by adjusting your device settings: Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization.
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 Local Storage
The following data is stored locally on your device:
- Your last known location (for faster app loading)
- Language preference
- Theme preference
- Cached air quality data (stored for up to 5 minutes)
4.2 Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:
- All API communications use HTTPS encryption
- Location data is processed locally on your device
- We do not maintain servers that store user data
- Cached data is automatically cleared after expiration
4.3 Data Retention
Since we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, there is no long-term data retention. All data stored locally on your device can be deleted by:
- Clearing the app's cache in your device settings
- Uninstalling the app
5. Your Rights and Choices
5.1 Location Permissions
You have full control over location access:
- You can deny location permissions when first prompted
- You can revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings
- The app will continue to function with limited features if location is denied
- You can manually search for cities instead of using automatic location
5.2 Data Deletion
To delete all locally stored data:
- Go to your device Settings
- Find Air Quality App in the app list
- Select "Clear Data" or "Clear Cache"
- Or simply uninstall the app
5.3 Opt-Out Options
- You can use the app without granting location permissions
- You can disable automatic data refresh in the app settings
6. Children's Privacy
Our app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age. The app is designed for general audiences and does not contain content specifically targeted at children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
7. International Data Transfers
Our third-party air quality data providers may be located in different countries. When you use the app, your location coordinates may be transmitted to servers in:
- European Union (Open-Meteo)
- United States (OpenAQ)
These transfers are necessary to provide you with air quality information. We ensure that our data providers comply with applicable data protection laws.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make changes:
- We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
- We will notify you through the app if changes are material
- Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
9. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), we process your data based on the following legal grounds:
- Consent: You provide consent when you grant location permissions
- Legitimate Interest: We have a legitimate interest in providing air quality information and improving our app
